Huntsville Hospital School of Surgical Technology

Huntsville Hospital School of Surgical Technology is a six-month program designed to prepare an individual for an entry level surgical technologist position in the Operating Room. The next class will begin Oct. 7, 2008.

Admission Requirements

  • Attend an information session to receive an application (see dates and times below). Registration is not necessary to attend an information session.
  • All applicants must have a valid U.S. Social Security number and/or be eligible to work in the United States.
  • All applicants must meet the following educational requirements:
    - Be at least 18 years old by the first day of class
    - Be a high school graduate or have a GED
  • Paperwork submitted with the application:
    - Official transcripts of all prior education
    - Copy of high school diploma/GED
    - Three formal character references (forms included in application packet)
  • Applicants are required to take the Health Occupations Aptitude Entrance Exam.

Admission Procedures
All interested applicants will receive an application packet.

  • Information sessions are offered:
    - Monday, June 23; 6 - 7 p.m.
    - Tuesday, June 24; 9 - 10 a.m.
    - Thursday, June 26; 9 - 10 a.m. and 4 - 5 p.m.
    Each information session is in Room 148 at Huntsville Hospital’s Corporate University located at the Dowdle Center, 109 Governors Drive (corner of Gallatin Street and Governors Drive)
  • Prospective students will be scheduled to take the Health Occupations Aptitude Exam
  • Submit a completed application packet (due July 25, 2008)
  • Submit a $75 application fee
  • Submit official college transcripts (if applicable)
  • Upon receipt of the aptitude test results, the selection committee will review test scores, all official transcripts and completed application
  • Once the applicant has progressed through the academic evaluation, a personal interview and clinical observation will be scheduled
  • Applicants are scored and selected based on the entrance exam score, observation evaluations, personal references and interview assessments

Academic Policies

  • An 80 percent average is required throughout the course, and dismissal may occur at any time if this average is not maintained.

  • Patient Care in Surgery
  • Clinical Practicum
  • Pharmacology

Graduation Requirements to earn a Certificate in Surgical Technology

  • All academic and clinical requirements completed
  • All financial requirements completed
  • All obligations to either Huntsville Hospital and/or the Huntsville Hospital School of Surgical Technology satisfied
