Huntsville Hospital's Neurological Services is dedicated to providing the best possible care for patients with neurologial disorders and diseases. Our neurological units are located on the 8th floor of the Main hospital. Please read more about our services by choosing any of the links on the left side of the page.

The Neuro Intensive Care/Stroke Unit (NICU) is an 18-bed unit located on the 8th Floor of the Main hospital. Patients treated range in age from adolescents to seniors.

We offer intensive care to patients with neurological disorders, including:

  • Head and/or Spinal Cord Injury
  • Stroke
  • Brain or Spinal Surgery
  • and many other Neurological Diseases

Diagnostic tests that we perform include:

  • Cerebral Angiography
  • CT Scan Head
  • EEG
  • Echocardiogram
  • Lumbar Puncture
  • Myelography
  • MRI

Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the U.S. Thatīs why it is important to know your risk factors, know the warning signs and how to respond quickly if warning signs occur.

The American Stroke Association lists the warning signs of stroke as:

  • Sudden confusion
  • Trouble speaking or understanding
  • Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
  • Sudden trouble walking
  • Dizziness
  • Loss of balance or coordination
  • Sudden severe headache with no known cause

Call 9-1-1 immediately if you experience symptoms.

The Neuro Progressive Care Unit (NPCU) is a 38 bed unit located on the 8th Floor of the Main hospital. Our goal is to have the best possible outcome for each of our patients and our staff is specially trained in Neurological and Neurosurgical patient care. We use the latest equipment in order to further assist us in providing the best quality care. Our patient range in age from adolescents to seniors.

We care for patients with neurological disorders, including:

  • Spinal or Brain Surgery
  • Head and/or Spinal Cord Injury
  • Stroke
  • and various Neurological Diseases

However, any acutely ill patient may be cared for on the NPCU.
