Athlete of the Week for January Week 1
Buckhorn High School
Sport: Football and Basketball Cheerleading / Competition Cheerleading
The modern-day cheerleader is an athlete who works hard and competes. For the first Athlete of the Week for 2013, cheerleading is a serious sport. Jamie Bice is a senior at Buckhorn High School, and when she is not leading the Bucks to victory, she is excelling in the classroom and around her community. Jamie has been cheering throughout high school and is now varsity captain of the football and basketball cheerleading squads. Beyond cheering for her team, Jamie is very active in cheerleading competitions. Jamie balances sports and the arts as first-chair flute in the Buckhorn High Concert Band, and she carries a 4.35 GPA in the classroom. She is a permanent resident on the honor roll, is taking Advanced Placement classes in Calculus, Biology and English, is a member of the National Honor Society, was the school winner of Wendy’s High School Heisman Award and has been accepted to the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s undergraduate Neuroscience program. Jamie loves to give back. She has volunteered much of her time to helping special needs students and tutoring middle school students in math. She is also a member of FCA and performs in her church band. Congratulations, Jamie!
