Athlete of the Week for January Week 3
Pope John Paul II Catholic High School
Follow the bouncing ball. If you do on the women's hardwood around the Huntsville area, you're sure to cross paths with our next Athlete of the Week. This basketball specialist is a senior at Pope John Paul II Catholic High School and can be found scoring as many points inside the classroom as in on the court. Meet Mary Pittman. She is one of the reasons why the Lady Falcons are soaring high in 4A Basketball, and she was named to the 2012 All-Area Team. Mary leads her team in rebounds and points in the same season and looks to continue the trend in 2013. In the classroom, she carries a 4.37 GPA and remains a permanent resident on the honor roll. She has competed in numerous science fairs in a variety of categories. Mary is a member of the Art, Spanish and National Honors Societies and has also been awarded the AP Scholar Award. Being a student at Pope John Paul II Catholic High School means you are required to fulfill some extracurricular requirements. Mary does that and then some. She is extremely active in her school campus ministry, as well as her local church. She has taught Sunday School and has been a teacher's aid for her church. Mary has also been an active member of her Praise Band and her youth choir, while finding time to work with CASA, helping build ramps for those who are wheelchair bound. Congratulations, Mary!
