Athlete of the Week for January Week 4
Sparkman High School
Twenty years from now, the life story of our next Athlete of the Week will be one about a young man who found his spot in life, arranged his priorities correctly, gave more than he received …
and did it all before he graduated high school. Meet Devin Hankins, a highly motivated senior from Sparkman High School. We say highly motivated, because despite already having a plate full of responsibility, Devin continues to take on challenges inside and outside the classroom. For the Sparkman Senators varsity basketball squad, Devin has emerged as the go-to guy. Not only is Devin the starting point guard for the Senators, he has served as team captain for the past two seasons. He has been named to the Huntsville Times Classic All-Tournament basketball team and has been recognized as an honorable mention to the AHSAA All-Area Basketball Team. He has been featured in several publications and was named The Best Basketball Player of AAU. Devin continues to lead the way in the classroom. Living in Huntsville will be perfect for Devin, because his interest in Math and Science have encouraged him to pursue a degree in Aerospace or Civil Engineering. He carries a solid 3.9 GPA, is in the top 10 percent of his graduating class and has made the Honor Roll, the Scholastic Achievement Honor Roll and Presidential Honor Roll. Devin knows the importance of giving, especially when it comes to his community. He is very active in his church Youth Ministry and has made annual visits to help senior citizens prepare their homes for the winter. Devin has volunteered his time improving local playgrounds to help provide children with a place to enjoy the outdoors. However, his proudest moment came when he was able to help his very own community pick up the pieces after the devastating tornadoes in April 2011. Congratulations, Devin!
