Athlete of the Week for February Week 2
New Hope High School
Sports: Basketball and Football
There are several ways to tell the story of our next Athlete of the Week. Dalton Whitaker has big shoes to fill because his older brother, Dustin, was selected as Athlete of the Week two years ago and went on to be named Athlete of the Year. Before arriving at New Hope High School, Dalton participated in wrestling, baseball, basketball and football, to name a few. He narrowed his focus to football and basketball before settling on specializing in basketball, and he has become an integral part of the Indians Varsity Basketball squad. His attitude is "Team First" on the court. In the classroom, Dalton has a 3.8 GPA while pursuing an advanced high school diploma. He is at the top of his class and continues on track to receive an academic scholarship from the University of Alabama, where he plans to study Corporate Finance and eventually make his way toward law school. Dalton has assumed the role of school representative with Boys State and the Youth Summit group, alongside several student clubs and organizations. Like his big brother, Dalton knows the value of helping others. For him, it starts in his church, where he is very active with the youth ministry and is always the first person to help those in need. He volunteers every year with the Special Olympics and continues to work with local organizations, such as The Care Center and Anchor Club. His biggest thrill comes when he can help tutor fellow students with their schoolwork. Congratulations, Dalton!
