Athlete of the Week for February Week 4

Cara Estes

David Hergenroeder
Bob Jones High School
4.9 GPA
Sports: Cross Country, Indoor Track, Soccer

When opportunity presents itself, individuals have to decide whether to jump at the chance or let that opportunity pass. Available time can be a determining factor. Our final Athlete of the Week in February has rarely said, "I can't fit any more on my plate" ... instead, he usually opts for, "Let me find some time for that." Even with a full workload in the classroom, his commitment to three school sports teams and his community responsibilities, you get the feeling that David Hergenroeder thrives on making the most of time. David has made a difference on the Bob Jones High School cross country, indoor track and soccer teams. He is a formidable runner for the Patriots, and as Team Captain, has led his cross country squad into the Alabama State Meet for the last three years, as well as helping lead the indoor track team to the State Indoor Meet. David also excels on the soccer field as a varsity starter and has been recognized on the All-Metro Team. In the classroom, David has a strong 4.9 GPA and is on track to graduate in the Top 5 of his class. In addition, he has been recognized twice as a National AP Scholar and is a National Merit Semifinalist. He is a member of the National Honor society and has achieved the highest score on 10 AP exams. David has earned accolades for his knowledge of the Spanish language and was also selected for the U.S. Department of State National Strategic Language Initiative Scholarship, where he spent seven weeks in China learning Mandarin Chinese. Despite being named a Wendy's Heisman Award Winner and also an elected representative to the Bob Jones High School Student Government Association, David's greatest achievement may be the community work he has done through the Boy Scouts of America. He has earned the ranking of Eagle Scout and was recognized to the Boy Scout Honor Society (Order of the Arrow). Congratulations, David!
