Athlete of the Week for April Week 4
Albertville High School
In regard to our final 2012-2013 Athlete of the Week, you might say, "Good things come to those who wait," or "Last, but certainly not least." Jay Penney would likely say, "It has been a long time coming." This Albertville Aggie has compiled a rather impressive list of accomplishments over the course of his high school career, including the Aggies top tennis player in 2012. Jay has been on the varsity tennis squad since freshman year and has earned recognition as the Marshall County tennis singles and doubles champion and Albertville High's best tournament player. He also earned the AHS "Aggie" Tennis Award for most outstanding player. When he is not shuffling his feet on the court, you will find Jay tapping to the beat of the Aggie Band. He has been on the music scene since his freshman year. On the academic side, Jay will graduate with honors, an advanced diploma and a 4.09 GPA. He is in the Top 5 of his graduating class and has been dually enrolled at Snead State Community College, taking advanced placement and honors classes. He plans to pursue a degree in Communications, which is fitting for Jay considering he was recognized by his peers as one of the most outgoing students at Albertville High School. He was even awarded the AHS "SNOOPY" Award, which is considered the highest achievement for an Aggie, as it goes to the person who shows the most school spirit, dedication and willingness to learn and achieve in the classroom. Jay is active in his local church. He plays in the Youth Praise band and has worked with numerous local mission projects. He has also gotten involved with Albertville City duties and decisions as a Junior Chamber Board member for the Albertville Chamber of Commerce. Congratulations, Jay!
