Athlete of the Week for September Week 1

Julie Wells

Julie Wells
Hazel Green High School
4.0 GPA
Sports: Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer and Cross Country

Our first Athlete of the Week may have one more year of high school to add further accomplishments to her resume, but based on what she’s already achieved, it won’t be easy for her to better what she has already delivered.  One can already tell that whatever challenge Julie Wells has to face, will be met head on by this outstanding Hazel Green High School senior.  She spent most of her early years dabbling in several sports.  She played basketball and volleyball her freshman and sophomore years, but it’s her feet that have really taken her places.  She’s made the varsity squad at Hazel Green for five years and was chosen as captain of her team and to the All-County soccer team as a junior.  Julie has also been selected by numerous soccer club teams to play for them, with her accomplishments earning her a nomination to play in the North South All-Star soccer game.  Her love of “foot-work” has even earned her a spot on the Trojan cross-country team.  In the classroom, her 4.0 GPA is only the tip of the iceberg when listing her academic achievements.  Her amazing understanding of Mathematics and Science has garnered her spots in several apprenticeship programs such as “Adventures at the US Army Aviation and Missile Command”, “Gaines in the Education of Math and Science” on Redstone Arsenal and a Research and Engineering Apprenticeship program on the UAH campus.  With what little time she has left available to her, Julie makes sure to spend it by making a difference in her community.  Her list of involvement may be too long to list, but she certainly stays active with several school groups and fundraising organizations, along with making several mission trips and staying active in her church.  Keep in mind; she’s accomplished all this within her first three years of high school.  We’re sure there’s more to come from Julie.  Congratulations, Julie!
