Athlete of the Week for October Week 4
Hazel Green High School
Sport: Basketball and Football
It is very easy for any high school student-athlete to simply go through the motions, put their time in and leave the school as quickly as they came in. All too often, young adults depart their alma-mater without leaving something for the next generation. That is not the case for our next Athlete of the Week. He is already leaving a legacy at Hazel Green High School by doing his part for the next generation of Trojan student-athletes. The name Austin Dempsey will hold special value with several young boys and girls, especially when you begin talking about how what he has done within his community. He may be an honor roll student who carries a 3.7 GPA, but the time he puts in to helping teach young kids the right way to play basketball and football is immeasurable. Austin reads to elementary kids and mentors future Trojans on the importance of being a good student. He has volunteered with the Miracle League and belongs to the local FCA. Not surprisingly, his athleticism is as strong as his dedication. Austin is a two-way player, tackling football and basketball his high school career. He has won All-Tournament, All-Area and Region MVP honors. He helped lead the Trojans to a State Runner-Up trophy and was awarded to the 2012 AHSAA All-Star basketball team for his efforts. Austin is the go-to guy on the gridiron, having been chosen to the All-Metro team, the All-Area team and helping lead the Hazel Green Football team to the post-season. Take his outstanding achievements in Algebra and Trigonometry and add all that up, and you have our Athlete of the Week for the last week in October. Congratulations, Austin!
