Athlete of the Week for November Week 3
Hazel Green High School
Sport: Basketball and Softball
When you think about the amount of information young student-athletes have to carry around with them, either in their heads or on their backs, it is amazing that there is any way for them to stay on top of it all. But each day, young men and women continue to shatter misconceptions about their dedication to detail and how they set priorities. Haley Thompson from Hazel Green High School is one of those who breaks the mold and sets the pace. She has established herself as an outstanding Hazel Green High School ambassador and a role model for hard-working student-athletes across the state. She is an All-Star for the Hazel Green softball team. A four-year starter, Haley was awarded Defensive Player of the Year once and MVP twice. Her success in sports also spreads to the courts, where she is a three-time All-Area Tournament member and All-County for her play with the volleyball team. Haley is a great all-around basketball player, and she held the highest GPA in the basketball program for an entire year. Her accomplishments in the classroom include a 4.0 GPA and placement in higher level English, History and Calculus classes. She also earned a 27 on the ACT. The time she spends working in the school concession stand, picking up trash, and volunteering each year with Relay for Life, make her an all-around good person and the Athlete of the Week for the third week in November. Congratulations, Haley!
