Athlete of the Week for November Week 4
John Carter Walker
Huntsville High School
The expression “itís in my blood” is a strong indicator of passion toward an idea, a team or, in the case of our next Athlete of the Week, a sport. To say John Carter Walker merely likes the sport of soccer would be an understatement. This Huntsville High School senior has had a soccer ball at his feet since the age of 5, when he started playing AYSO soccer. He continued with AYSO for eight years. Once in high school, John entered into a very competitive environment and earned a spot on the Huntsville High Soccer team. He has become an integral part of that teamís success. But, when a sport is “in your blood,” like it is with John, you play year-round. His membership to the Huntsville Futbol club has landed him on a State Championship team, which is poised to win another title in 2012. Academics are in Johnís blood as well. He carries a solid 3.83 GPA and is a permanent resident on the academic honor roll. His high ACT score alongside strong AP test results have garnered him a full tuition scholarship offer from the University of Alabama, along with a secondary scholarship from the UA School of Engineering. John also understands that his role in the community is more than just good grades and goals. John has volunteered several of his summers to help younger kids at youth camps. He continues to give his time at Manna House and to those still recovering from the April 2011 storms that hit Alabama. He even makes it a point to roll up his sleeve once in a while to give blood for the American Red Cross -- the same blood that fuels this young manís desire and that makes him our Athlete of the Week. Congratulations, John!
