Athlete of the Week for December Week 3
Laura Amelia Willett
Hazel Green High School
Sport: Dance, Track, Cross Country, Cheerleading and Golf
Issac Newton famously said, “An object in motion tends to stay in motion.” At some point, several years ago, our next Athlete of the Week was put in to motion, and to this date, has not encountered anything that can slow her down. Laura Amelia Willett has taken on much throughout her young life, but has assumed the responsibility that comes with it and enjoyed much success. No one is really sure what put Laura in to “motion”. Perhaps it was when she first started walking as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, something she began in the Fifth Grade and continues today in her senior year at Hazel Green High School. Or perhaps Laura got things going after she moved from the JV Cheerleading squad, to the Varsity team, or maybe it was taking on Cross Country after sprinting in to Track and Field after her freshman year. Academically, Laura has “launched” in to action with a spot on the honor roll and a 3.6 GPA. She has been named a school ambassador for two years and has been actively involved with the Hazel Green French Club and Honor Society. Laura has been active with the Junior Civitan club and has found ways to continue to give back to her community outside of school. She has managed to give back in several ways. Laura has helped volunteer her time with the Special Olympics. She has also assisted with Christmas Charities, the Food Bank and Relay for Life. She also stays very active at her church through youth groups and shares her love of dance by being a teacher and mentor. Congratulations, Laura!
