Athlete of the Week for February Week 4
Huntsville High School
The world of sport is said to have the power to change people. To make them better people, stronger people and more organized people. In some cases a coach sees this change taking place in a player and the positive effect it is having on the student-athlete. Wrestling has changed Patrick McDaniel and Huntsville High School Wrestling is reaping the benefits. This senior Panther first hit the mat in the eighth grade, but has polished his skills to that of a Alabama State qualifier and Team Captain. Patrick has also earned three letters on the wrestling team. In the classroom, Patrick’s performance is almost as dominating as it is on the mat. He carries a hefty 4.12 GPA, his SAT scores are off the charts and is ranked in the top 9 per-cent of his graduating class. Patrick rarely ever sees a “B” on his report card and has been a regular on the A Honor Roll. Smarts aside, Patrick understands that it’s not just about statistics and perfect grades; it’s about helping out his fellow man. His help can be found at the Downtown Rescue Mission and at his church where he is a camp counselor and youth leader. Patrick passes on his love of wrestling to others as a youth wrestling coach and works to make a difference to his fellow students as part of the student council. Congratulations, Patrick!
