Athlete of the Week for February Week 2
New Hope High School
Sports: Volleyball & Basketball
Balance; it’s the act of bringing everything to a state of equilibrium. Balance can also be described as having mental steadiness and stability. For any high school student athlete, bringing everything to a state of equilibrium, while having mental steadiness isn’t always that easy. Most get pulled in a thousand different directions. For Rachel Warren, she’s found that balance. As this week’s Athlete of the Week, she’s found a way to balance her efforts between her sports, her studies and her civic involvement. Not an easy task for this New Hope High School Senior, but somewhere in that hectic schedule of hers, she’s managed to maintain a solid 3.9 GPA, which has her placed fifth in her class rankings. Rachel balances her love of two sports, basketball and volleyball, very well. She’s won All-County honors for her basketball play, while garnering equal accolades in volleyball with All-County, All-Area and All-Tournament honors. Back in the classroom, she’s balancing a full schedule of AP classes, which include AP English, Literature and Calculus. Rachel is nominated for “Who’s Who Among American Scholars and spends much of her time as a member of the National Honors Society. IT would seem between her school work and her athletic commitments, Rachel wouldn’t have much time for anything else. But, even with a full schedule, Rachel gives back in her community. She’s concentrated much of her volunteering with helping Special Olympics, but plays a pivotal role in her community Youth Group. Rachel has found that steadiness which makes her the Athlete of the Week. Congratulations, Rachel!
