Athlete of the Year winner
Athlete of the Week for February Week 4
Providence Classical School
Sports: Volleyball and Soccer
In sport, as it is in life, it’s not always the destination that matters, but rather, the journey one takes that matters most. Our Athlete of the Week for the final week in February exemplifies that you can be a trailblazer by not simply winning and acquiring accolades, but by creating the path for others behind you to win their own events and acquire their own accolades. Taylor Elkins is a senior at Providence Classical School and years from now, she’ll be remembered as the girl who originated the idea of starting a high school volleyball team at her school. She presented her plan to the school principal and school board and became the founder of the first-ever girls sport team at Providence Classical. She also led the charge to form the member of the team and was even Team Captain of the volleyball team for the first two years. Taylor also plays club soccer, where she’s a solid midfielder. Academically, Taylor’s strong work ethic has resulted in a 4.0 GPA and also the award for Academic Excellence for earning at least a 97% year average in almost every class subject. She excels in math and science, but has been known to dabble with writing poetry and essays; some of which have been selected for publication and even winning state honors. Taylor, annually researches, writes and presents a thesis on a controversial topic, which she then presents to peers and school board members. As a volunteer, Taylor has remained active throughout her community. Most recently, she helped with disaster relief after the April 2011 tornadoes. She’s a greeter and nursery helper at her church. Taylor assists the elderly, the homeless at Manna House and even sings in her school choir. Taylor stands as an inspiration for future students at Providence Classical School. Congratulations, Taylor!
