Athlete of the Week for March Week 2
Scottsboro High School
Sports: Cross Country & Basketball
Being one of many high school seniors in your school may make it a little difficult to stand out and show superlative talent. Sometimes it takes the eye of a teacher to recognize those students who approach things differently. In the case of Alex Harmening, it’s not just her dedication to the books that caught the eye of her science teacher, but what she has accomplished as a whole that sets her apart. With a GPA that’s approaching a perfect 4.0, Alex has taken honors and AP classes throughout high school and passed each course with flying colors. Her name has never been left off an Honor Roll list, either. After trying and succeeding with basketball, Alex tried her hand at cross country and flourished to help the Buckhorn High varsity team place first in the 5A/6A school division. Her times also allowed her to qualify for the State matches. The one thing that seems to give Alex the most satisfaction has to be the time she gives to her community. She has involved herself, heavily, with her youth group. They have been responsible for area school clean-up projects, reach-out projects to feed the homeless and saving a little time in between to work in her church nursery. Congratulations, Alex!
