Athlete of the Week for April Week 4
Huntsville High School
Last is certainly not least when we talk about our last Athlete of the Week for the school year. This Huntsville High senior might be called a “fish out of water” with the success she’s had on her school’s swim team. Valerie Nubbe has spent most of her life in the water, and it shows when speaking of her athletic accomplishments. She holds several records with the Huntsville Swim Association, the Rocket City Swim League and the Huntsville High School swim and dive team. She was named “Elite Swimmer of the Year” in 2011, likely due to the state title she took home this season for the 100 yard freestyle. Valerie stays well above water with her schoolwork, too. She carries a strong 4.3 GPA, while having taken 10 AP classes. She was named an AP scholar and still made time to be actively involved with the National, Latin and Math Honors Society. Valerie shares her love of swimming by being a coach for the Special Olympics. She also volunteers her time with the Red Cross, Mana House, YMCA and the Huntsville Museum of Art. She’s volunteered so much of her time, she was awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award for volunteering more than 100 hours. Congratulations, Valerie!
