Athlete of the Week for November Week 2
New Hope High School
Sports: Football, Basketball
Some student athletes are just born to be leaders, born to excel at sports and born to leave a lasting mark for future student-athletes to use in their future endeavors. Dustin Whitaker is one of those students. This New Hope High School senior had a talent for the game of baseball as a freshman, which led him to a starting position on the varsity squad. It’s not just baseball, either. Dustin lettered all four years on the football team as a varsity starter and has been an integral part of the Indians basketball team since his freshman year. In the classroom, perfection is the key. He ranks number one in his class with a staggering 4.15 GPA and holds the highest average in five of his classes. He’s the president of the National Honor’s Society and was featured in the “Head of the Class” section of the Huntsville Times. Dustin knows it’s also important to give back; that’s why he is a peer helper for the three sports at the Special Olympics. He’s an active youth leader at his local church, he reaches out to the needy to offer help and never turns down a chance to help tutor fellow students who might need help with a subject or two. Congratulations, Dustin!
