Athlete of the Week for November Week 1
Connor M. Gillies
Sparkman High School
As a sports medicine program, we take pride in having the opportunity to be that safety net for student-athletes who may fall victim to injury. Sometimes what we do might spark the interest of a young student-athlete wanting to learn more about wellness and the sports medicine field. That spark was ignited by Sparkman High senior Connor Gillies. Connor has taken advantage of the Medical Academy at Sparkman. It is a program provided by Huntsville Hospital Sports Center and one that centers around topics and techniques relating to sports medicine. Connorís first love takes him to the soccer field where heís made a name for himself, ever since he was a freshman. He was then promoted to play varsity soccer as a sophomore and loves the sport so much, he has volunteered as coach for the Alabama Youth Soccer Organization for the past three years. In the classroom, you can find Connor close to the top of his class. He carries a 3.7 GPA and has had his name regularly appear on the Honor Roll list. Even with a class load that is filled with Advanced Placement (AP) classes, (thatís 15 Pre-AP classes and 2 AP classes) he keeps his numbers high and will be ready to attend the University of South Alabama honors program and major in Pre-Med, beginning next Fall. Congratulations, Connor!
