Athlete of the Week for December Week 1
Madison County High School
It’s easy to say that what makes a great candidate for Athlete of the Week is someone who has had success in athletics, academics and shows community involvement. Those are the basic requirements. The first Athlete of the Week of December has met those requirements with ease, but it’s not every day you meet a young man who says he wants to create peace in the world. For now, Anthony Bestler is creating peace inside Madison County High School and tackling a full load of work on and off the field for the Tigers. Described as a “positive role model” and referred to as “Tony” by his friends, Tony has been tearing up the soccer fields of North Alabama since he can remember. He’s a starter for the Tiger’s varsity soccer squad and plays club soccer for the Huntsville Futbol Club. In class, he’s kicked his GPA up to a solid 4.05 and he’s done it while being a part of groups like the National Honors Society, Beta Club, Junior ROTC and Student Government Association. Tony sought leadership opportunities in the community with Huntsville Hospital, the United Way and his local church and has received recognition for his efforts by being the recipient of the Rotary Youth Leadership Award, the Military Order of the World Wars Best Male Student Award and was a Gains in Education of Math and Science recipient. His classmates say he’s hard working and “always gives 110 percent.” Congratulations, Tony!
