Athlete of the Week for December Week 3
Boaz High School
Sports: Football and Basketball
The expression, “Pay It Forward,” applies to more than just money. It can very much mean that one can pay it forward with acts of kindness and good deeds. As we head in to the bulk of the holiday season, it seems only fitting that our Athlete of the Week is a young man who has had much success on the field and in the classroom, but has taken what he’s learned and passed it along to others. Down in the wonderful city of Boaz, Alabama and through the halls of Boaz High School, you’ll find a student-athlete who may be a “Pirate” at heart, but his head keeps his ship sailing calm waters in the open sea. Andrew Thompson is the captain of his own ship, but a team player first. For Boaz football, he’s been a three year starter with All-County and All-Region honorable mentions in 2010 and 2011. He was also selected the FCA Player of the Month and for the Huntsville Times “Head of the Class” award. That award means this senior is a star on the field AND in the classroom. That is where you’ll find Andrew involved with the National Honors Society, Math Honors Society and Spanish Club. He takes Advance-Placement classes, from A.P. History to A.P. Composition and Literature. Most importantly, Andrew gives back to the next generation of Athletes of the Week. He involves himself with the Special Olympics, Junior Civitans Club and Rotary Club. But his true love would be mentoring to younger kids as part of his church’s youth group. Congratulations, Andrew!
