Youth Volunteers

Youth Volunteers are encouraged to participate in our Summer Youth Auxiliary Volunteer Program. This program is specifically designed to address the needs and abilities of high school and college students who wish to volunteer while not interfering with their schoolwork.

Signing up for the Summer Auxiliary Volunteer program is easy! Contact Volunteer Services in February. College students who have open or flexible schedules, or those who have specific educational requirements may be placed in a volunteer position outside of the Summer Program on a case-by-case basis; and are encouraged to contact Volunteer Services to discuss their needs with the Placement Coordinator or the Director of Volunteer Services.

In order to qualify as a Youth Auxiliary Volunteer, students must be at least 15 years old, maintain a “B” average during the course of the school year and participate in the mandatory Orientation and Training Sessions as required. Youth Volunteers who are under the age of 18 must also have the permission of their parent or guardian to participate. As members of the Huntsville Hospital Auxiliary, Youth Volunteers will be required to purchase and wear a uniform as well as pay annual membership dues of $5.00. Volunteers will also be required to meet all other requirements as outlined in the program policies and procedures which include the provision for a minimum number of volunteer service hours. Youth Volunteers are required to complete a minimum of 28 service hours over the course of the Program.

Orientation and Training Sessions for Youth Auxiliary Volunteers will include a review of Huntsville Hospital Policies and Procedures, Safety Training, Evacuation Training, HIPAA & Confidentiality Requirements and assignment-specific training as required. You may also be trained on the safe operation of a wheelchair, on the use of certain computer systems and other equipment as required by your assignment.
