Fever & Flu Clinic joins 'Test to Treat' network

HUNTSVILLE, AL – Huntsville Hospital’s Fever & Flu Clinic has joined a new network of federally-qualified sites that offer COVID-19 testing, medical evaluation and prescription treatment under one roof.

As part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ “Test to Treat” program, the Governors Drive clinic offers both rapid antigen and laboratory-based PCR tests as well as the latest oral antiviral medications, intravenous monoclonal antibodies and intravenous antiviral drugs to treat COVID-19.

High-risk patients who come to the Fever & Flu Clinic with COVID symptoms are given a rapid test and evaluated by the nurse practitioner on site to see if they are a candidate for any of these potentially lifesaving therapies. IV treatments can be started right away at the clinic; oral antivirals are available through the Huntsville Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy with curbside pick-up so patients don’t have to enter the building.

“We opened the Fever & Flu Clinic in March 2020 to provide a safe and convenient location for COVID-19 testing, and it has become one of the busiest test sites in Alabama with more than 59,000 visits and counting,” said Huntsville Hospital President and Chief Operating Officer Tracy Doughty. “We are excited to continue providing access to these important services through the national Test to Treat program.”

Currently, the Fever & Flu Clinic and Fox Army Health Clinic in Huntsville are the only certified Test to Treat sites in Madison County. Many area pharmacies are participating in the federal program as locations where patients can fill prescriptions for COVID-19 medications.

The Huntsville Hospital Fever & Flu Clinic is located at 120 Governors Drive, across from Huntsville Hospital Heart Center. Hours are Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and walk-ins are welcome.
