Pushing back against Parkinson's Disease

Pushing back against Parkinson's Disease

Physical therapist Erin Keefer, DPT, joined Huntsville Hospital in June 2016 with a dream in mind – to create a program for people in our community diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

That dream was realized with the opening of the Parkinson’s Care Clinic located inside the Med Mall Wellness Center. The clinic has 11 staff members with over 100 years of combined experience.

This new clinic is the first of its kind in North Alabama and offers physical, occupational and speech therapy, health and fitness assessments, nutrition counseling, and health screenings, all under one roof. Parkinson’s specific programs such as aquatic therapy, SPEAK OUT!®, The LOUD Crowd, Lee Silverman Voice Treatment and Parkinson's Wellness Recovery are also offered.

Erin and her team also partner with Rock Steady Boxing, the Senior Center and Dance Rocket City to help patients maintain a healthy and active lifestyle outside of the clinic.

"We strive to provide excellence in patient-centered care through staff education, innovative programming and the use of technology," Erin said. "We place a high value on community outreach and volunteerism."
