An RN apprentice works under the supervision of a health care provider, performing duties such as taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medication, ensuring patient comfort and reporting the status of their patients to the nurses.

What is the Launch Program?

The Launch Program is a joint venture between Huntsville Hospital and Drake State Community and Technical College. Registered Nursing (RN) curriculum classes will be taught by Drake instructors at Huntsville Hospital’s Cochran campus.

How do I apply?

  1. Apply for admission to Drake State.
    All new students must complete a Drake State admission application before applying to the nursing program. Follow the Drake State step-by-step admission checklist to get started.
  2. Enroll in general education classes.
  3. Apply for admission into the Registered Nursing (RN) program.
    Registered Nursing is a five-semester comprehensive program of study that integrates theory and clinical practice. The curriculum is designed to provide qualified individuals an opportunity to acquire the knowledge, mindset, and skills to become a Registered Nursing (RN) who work under the supervision of professional registered nurses. Upon successful completion of the program, students take the registered nursing licensure examination (NCLEX-RN). 

What courses do I need to complete before starting the RN program?

You will need to complete Human Anatomy & Physiology I and II, English, Math, Speech and Psychology. This will take a minimum of two semesters. You will need your ACT results.

Are scholarships available?

Huntsville Hospital will pay up to $20,000 in tuition, fees, books and other expenses related to nursing classes in exchange for a commitment to work 18 months as an RN in any of our Madison County hospital campuses.

What happens after I am accepted into the Launch Program?

Congratulations! You will be hired by Huntsville Hospital. You must complete a drug and background screen, an immunization screen and a physical exam to meet employment and educational requirements. You will also decide if you will select to be in the Non-Apprentice or Apprentice Track.

What happens if I decide to leave Huntsville Hospital within the contract requirement?

After graduation, the agreement is for a full-time (36 hours per week) commitment. A pro-rated repayment can be arranged if the contract is broken within the contract requirement.
