About

Established in 1895, Huntsville Hospital is a community-based, not-for-profit hospital located in Madison County, Alabama. The hospital has been volunteer-led and community-owned since its founding and is governed today by the 11-member Health Care Authority of the City of Huntsville.

Under the leadership of CEO Jeff Samz, Huntsville Hospital Health System has grown to include hospitals in Huntsville, Madison, Athens, Decatur, Boaz, Guntersville, Fort Payne, Moulton, Red Bay, Sheffield and Scottsboro, Alabama, as well as Fayetteville, Tennessee. With 19,500 employees caring for more than 136,000 inpatients and 382,000 emergency patients each year, the System is one of the region's largest employers and contributes more than $4.2 billion annually to the North Alabama economy.

The flagship campus, Huntsville Hospital, serves as the regional referral center for North Alabama and southern Tennessee and is a teaching facility for UAB’s Family Practice and Internal Medicine residency programs. Huntsville Hospital is also home to one of only three statewide Level I Trauma Centers. And as a not-for-profit, Huntsville Hospital cares for all patients in its 16-county service area regardless of their ability to pay.

Huntsville Hospital is guided by a belief in patient-centered, quality-focused processes, which lead to optimal health care outcomes. Blue Cross Blue Shield recognized these efforts by naming Huntsville Hospital a Blue Cross Distinction Center for cardiac care, knee and hip replacement, and maternity and bariatric surgery.

In addition to being accredited by the Joint Commission, Huntsville Hospital has received numerous awards for clinical and service excellence. U.S. News & World Report also listed Huntsville Hospital #2 among Alabama hospitals for 2022-23, with nine different clinical areas rated as “High Performing." Becker's Review included Huntsville Hospital on its list of the “Top 100 Hospitals in the Nation with Great Heart Programs," and the hospital received Consumer Reports' highest rating for knee replacement surgery.

In 2023, U.S. News & World Report named Huntsville the #2 Best Place to Live in the country. Forbes has named Huntsville one of the Top 20 Leading Metros for Business, and Kiplinger’s Personal Finance has named Huntsville one of the country’s Top 10 Cities for Raising Families.
