Huntsville Hospital School of Surgical Technology, located in the
Dowdle Center at 109 Governors Drive, is a 6-month program designed to prepare an individual for an entry level surgical technologist (surgical assistant)position in the Operating Room.
This is a non-accredited program and students are not eligible to take the national certification exam. If selected for this program, students are considered a full-time (36 hours/week) Huntsville Hospital employee. The classroom is 10 weeks in length and meets Monday-Friday from 7am to 2:30 p.m. There are 2 clinical rotations with an assigned preceptor for a total of 12 weeks. There are no pre-requisites. You must be eligible to be a hospital employee.
A 3-year contract is required. The contract states that the participant will work for the hospital, after completion of the program, for 3 years for the education received.
The application will be posted on the hospital job postings under the heading: Technicians. Then look for “Surgical Assistant Trainee”. Applications with no resume attached will not be considered.
* Individuals currently employed by Huntsville Hospital may apply but their overall work history including any past disciplinary actions will be taken into consideration in the final applicant selection process. Interested individuals may obtain information from Corporate University offices.
*A position in the OR requires the employee to take call & be able to return on site within 30 minutes. This is not required while in the program.
